Oberg Law Office sits near I-635 and Highway 80 in Mesquite. We’re licensed throughout Texas, and our practice is focused on North Texas and the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. In practice, most of our clients are injured within about thirty minutes of our front door.
That proximity matters more than it sounds. Where your accident happened helps determine where your case can be filed, which courthouse you’ll go to, and which jury pool hears it.
If you were seriously hurt somewhere else in Texas, call anyway — we’ll tell you honestly whether we’re the right firm.
Dallas County
Mesquite, Garland, Rowlett, Balch Springs, Seagoville, Sunnyvale and Dallas are all in Dallas County. Eastern Dallas County is home for us, and its traffic problems are familiar ones. I-635 along the east side has been under construction for years and will be for years more, while carrying commuters out of eastern Dallas County, Rockwall County and Kaufman County. Where I-635, I-20 and Highway 175 come together, congestion is constant. Belt Line Road is the other major artery through this part of the county. And I-30 runs east to west straight across Dallas County, carrying commuter traffic and a heavy volume of commercial trucks.
Garland is about 15 minutes from our office.
Kaufman County
Forney, Terrell and Kaufman are in Kaufman County, and the courthouse is in the city of Kaufman. Highway 80 and I-20 are how you reach Forney and Terrell, and both cities have changed fast. Forney is one of the fastest-growing suburban areas in the nation, and that growth has poured commuter traffic onto Highway 80 toward Dallas–Fort Worth. Terrell has grown too, particularly where Highway 80 and I-20 merge — a stretch that has filled with new businesses and restaurants in the past few years, along with the congestion that comes with them.
Forney is about 15 minutes from our office. Terrell is about 20, as is Kaufman, straight down Highway 175.
Rockwall County
Rockwall is its own county with its own courthouse, and one of the smaller, faster dockets in the area. I-30 and the Lake Ray Hubbard crossings carry most of the traffic. The Rockwall County courthouse is about 25 minutes from our office.
Rowlett deserves a note: part of the city sits in Dallas County and part in Rockwall County, which can affect where a lawsuit is filed. See the venue question below.
Van Zandt County
Canton and Wills Point are in Van Zandt County, with the courthouse in Canton, roughly 30 minutes east of us on I-20. I-20 through Van Zandt County is where most of these cases start.
Canton is also unusual. First Monday Trade Days — one of the largest flea markets in the country, running Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of every month for more than 150 years — brings heavy visitor traffic off I-20 onto local roads, with parking accessed from FM 859 and State Highway 64. Drivers slowing to hunt for parking, unfamiliar with the area and often from well outside it, make those weekends genuinely different from an ordinary one.

Common questions
Which county will my case be filed in?
In a car crash case, venue — the county where the lawsuit is filed — is generally determined by either the county where the crash occurred or the county where the defendant resides. Often those are the same. Sometimes they aren’t. Rowlett is a good example: part of the city is in Dallas County and part is in Rockwall County. We look at venue case by case, based on the particular circumstances of your wreck.
Does it matter that your office isn’t in my city?
What matters is whether your lawyer knows the courthouse your case is going to, and can get to you when you need him. Nearly every city listed here is within about thirty minutes of our office, we’ll come to you if you can’t travel, and Gregg Oberg has handled personal injury lawsuits and claims in all four of these counties.
How long do I have to file a car accident claim in Texas?
The general statute of limitations is two years from the date of injury. There are limited exceptions — usually Texas Tort Claims Act matters against governmental entities, which can carry far shorter notice deadlines. Don’t wait to find out which applies to you.
